Our four principles

What guided us in building this edition.

The guide is built for contractor hiring, not local payroll.

Hiring model by context, not by ideology

Combine contractor, EOR or local entity depending on the role, the level of impact, the stage of the business and how critical the position is.

Decision speed is a competitive advantage

The real bottleneck is not finding talent, it is reducing time-to-hire: clarity up front, less redundancy and consistent assessments.

Hire on evidence, compensate with clarity

Generate signal early with SPK and Smart Interviews, and prioritize total compensation (feedback, flexibility, simple bonuses) over salary in isolation.

Real seniority plus active retention

Seniority is impact, autonomy and quality of decisions. Retention is earned with real onboarding, rituals, feedback and consistency between what was promised and what is lived.

Ranges are indicative and built for remote contractor hiring. They do not replace a case-by-case negotiation.

FAQ

What people always ask about the guide.

Does this guide apply to local payroll or only to contractor hiring?
It is built for remote contractor hiring. Local payroll figures include social charges, mandatory benefits and entity costs that vary enormously by country, so comparing them directly against a contractor range leads to wrong conclusions.
Should I treat these ranges as fixed prices?
No. They are indicative references to structure a search and calibrate expectations. The final number depends on the specific role, how scarce the profile is, English level, urgency and the real complexity of the challenge.
How does the guide define seniority (junior, mid, senior)?
By impact, autonomy and quality of decisions, not just years of experience. Five years doing the same thing does not make someone senior; three years leading technical decisions can.
Do the tiers (T1, T2, T3) mean one country has better talent than another?
No. Tiers organize the data by average market dynamics: relative cost, supply density and competition for the profile. They say nothing about the quality of a country's talent.
How much does English affect compensation?
Quite a lot, especially in roles with client exposure or direct work with US teams. The same technical profile with conversational English competes in a much wider market, and that pushes the range up.
Why does the same role show different ranges across companies?
Because the title says very little. The real scope of the role, the size of the system, the level of autonomy, the stack and how critical the project is move the range far more than the job title does.
Why does total compensation matter more than base salary alone?
Because acceptance and retention depend on the whole package: payment reliability, flexibility, quality of feedback, learning and how people are treated. Raising salary without fixing the rest usually costs more in the end.
What common mistakes should I avoid when using this guide?
Three: comparing contractor ranges against payroll costs, treating the bottom of the range as the default target, and defining seniority by years of experience rather than demonstrable impact.

Have an opening and want the real range for your case?

Tell us the profile and the target country and we give you a concrete range, not an average. If that person is already available in our database, we tell you that too.
